Information on SHARP TV Accessibility Features
Modern televisions are equipped with a range of accessibility features designed to make viewing and operation easier for all users, including those with visual, hearing, or physical impairments. These features enhance usability and help ensure that everyone can enjoy TV content without barriers. Below is an overview of the accessibility features available on our TVs.
Note: Not all of the features described below are available on every model. Please refer to the TV packaging to find out which features are included.
Screen Reader
The screen reader is a voice guidance feature that reads out on-screen text, such as menu options and settings. It helps users with visual impairments navigate the TV interface independently.
Text Scaling
This feature allows users to increase the size of on-screen text, making it easier to read for those with low vision or reading difficulties.
Bold Text
When enabled, the TV displays all text in bold, improving readability by increasing the contrast and thickness of characters.
Colour Correction
Colour correction adjusts the on-screen colours to improve visibility for users with colour vision deficiencies, such as red-green colour blindness.
Keyboard Accessibility
Users can navigate the TV using a connected keyboard, offering an alternative to the remote control. This can be especially helpful for individuals with limited mobility or dexterity. Additional keyboard settings may include:
Time to take action – sets how long temporary action prompts are displayed on-screen.
Key repeat delay – adjusts the delay before a held key starts repeating.
Switch Access
This feature enables users to control the TV using external switches or assistive devices. It’s designed for people with motor impairments who may find standard remote controls difficult to use.
Audio Description
Audio description provides spoken commentary that describes visual elements of a program, such as actions, settings, and scene changes, making TV content more accessible for visually impaired viewers.
Captions
Captions display spoken dialogue and sound effects as on-screen text. This feature supports users who are deaf or hard of hearing.
High Contrast Text
High contrast text increases the distinction between text and background, improving readability for users with visual impairments. When this feature is available, it means that either the TV menus are designed to follow high contrast principles by default, or there is an option in the user menu that allows users to enable high contrast mode manually.
Accessibility Shortcut
The accessibility shortcut provides quick access to key accessibility features, allowing users to enable or disable them with a simple button press or key combination.
